When I tell westerners about the Social Credit System in China, their responses are fervent and visceral. Yet we already rate restaurants, movies, books and even doctors. Facebook, meanwhile, is now capable of identifying you in pictures without seeing your face; it only needs your clothes, hair and body type to tag you in an image with 83 per cent accuracy. (…) We already live in a world of predictive algorithms that determine if we are a threat, a risk, a good citizen and even if we are trustworthy. We're getting closer to the Chinese system - the expansion of credit scoring into life scoring - even if we don't know we are.
Yes, there’s a silly positive fetishism about guns that sees them as intrinsically liberating objects, and liberals and leftists easily recognize and critique that attitude. But there’s also a silly negative fetishism, a noli me tangere attitude, that studiously ignores the fact, and its implications, that armed force is a fundamental element of the political state in which we all live, on which we depend, and from which some of us benefit more than others. That attitude is part, I think, of the casual “imaginary pacifism” that crops up repeatedly as a constituent of American liberal ideology.
My only cure is a simple and very painful one: do not compete. Refuse all sorts of competition in science that bear on how the limited budgets are split. Knowing that true science has never ceased to be a cooperative effort, and knowing where excessive competition leads, refuse to compete with your peers and colleagues. Find the dignity not to struggle for sources the public is not willing to provide you with; in particular not against someone who you think is every bit as good a scientist as yourself.
By the time Zuckerberg began extolling the virtues of hacking, he had stripped the name of most of its original meaning and distilled it into a managerial philosophy that contains barely a hint of rebelliousness. Hackers, he told one interviewer, were “just this group of computer scientists who were trying to quickly prototype and see what was possible. That’s what I try to encourage our engineers to do here.” To hack is to be a good worker, a responsible Facebook citizen – a microcosm of the way in which the company has taken the language of radical individualism and deployed it in the service of conformism.
Instead of arguing against technology or tech work itself, we should advocate for democratically harnessing technical expertise and engineering know-how to satisfy human needs, alleviate the burden of labor, and fix environmental damage. Engineers tend to be a highly rational bunch, and they may be open to the idea of collectively and deliberately deciding how to apply their talents, instead of remaining subject to market signals suggesting that the world wants another Snapchat clone.
The desire for rational application of technical talent can align with the worldview of tech workers themselves, who would have more fulfilling work under socialism.

Média – kromě úliteb neofašistickým fobiím – vedou doslova kampaň proti „ekonomickým migrantům“ z Guineje, Pobřeží slonoviny, Gambie, Senegalu či Nigérie, kde vesměs nejsou žádné války ani diktatury, „pouze“ sucho a hladovění. Před smrtí hladem se přece neutíká, ale jen nezodpovědně „migruje za lepším“, navíc se zločinným cílem změnit etnickou skladbu evropských národů. To nepřipustíme! Naštěstí už od studené války mají v Evropě právo na azyl jen ti, jimž jsou upírány politické svobody, protože v sovětském bloku skoro nikdo nehladověl. Tyto studenoválečnické účelové přežitky v mezinárodním právu se nám teď při obraně pevnosti Evropa náramně hodí. Železná opona budiž požehnána!

Po roce 1989 jsme u nás s velkou slávou ustavili demokratické zřízení a po totalitní zkušenosti si na něm minimálně formálně velmi zakládáme. Zavádění demokratických principů se ale jaksi zastavilo před branami firem – tam naopak platí bezohledný diktát nejsilnějšího, pro který by se mnohdy hodilo ze všeho nejspíš označení tyranie, a málokomu na tom přijde něco divného.
